Granary Cottage is in Clapworthy, which is a quiet hamlet between South Molton and Barnstaple. It's a two-storey converted granary, next to our house and another cottage. You get a private patio and garden area at the side.
It sleeps up to six. Three bedrooms and one bathroom upstairs. It's got a 3 Star rating. That means it's comfortable and clean, not luxury. It’s warm and dry. The stairs are part of the old building so they turn sharply halfway up.
There's a shared games room in a separate barn with a pool table and table tennis. It's a simple space but it's useful if the weather isn't great.
The nearest pub serving food is about two miles away. A shop is four miles, in South Molton. South Molton has a good market on Thursdays and Saturdays.
The coast is about half an hour’s drive. Instow has a sandy beach and you can drive on to Saunton, Croyde, and Woolacombe for surfing.
You're right on the edge of Exmoor. It's about a 25-minute drive up onto the high moor for walking. The Tarka Cycle Trail runs through Barnstaple. You can hire bikes there.
For a day out, Arlington Court and Knightshayes are both National Trust properties within easy reach.
Facilities include a woodburning stove, a BBQ, parking right outside, a washing machine, and a cot. Bedding and towels are provided. No pets, I'm afraid.
