Kestral

Kestral is one of a few converted farm buildings just outside a place called Gold Hill, in the Cambridgeshire fens. It's part of the owners' arable farm, so you're in the middle of fields. The views are big sky, very flat. The sunsets can be really good.

It sleeps eight people, in four bedrooms. There are two bathrooms. It's got a 4 Star rating, which means it's well equipped and comfortable. Everything is on one level, which makes it easier if you've got mobility issues or a pushchair. There's a private patio area with a table and a BBQ.

The main thing here is the shared facilities. There's an indoor heated swimming pool and a hot tub you can book slots for. There's also a covered courtyard area and a kids' play space.

You can walk straight out from the cottage onto the farm's own footpaths. It's very quiet. Ely is about six miles away. The cathedral is the big draw there, it's huge and you can see it for miles. The town has a nice marina and river walks. Ely Cathedral has all the visiting information.

Cambridge is about a half hour drive. Kings Lynn is a bit further, maybe 40 minutes. Littleport is closer, about three miles, and has shops, pubs and restaurants by the river.

For facilities, it's got the basics covered: WiFi, a washing machine, dishwasher. Bedding and towels are included. A cot and highchair are there if you need them. There's parking right outside. No pets allowed.

If you're looking for walking routes or other places to visit, the National Trust East of England page is useful, as is the Visit Cambridge site.
