Sandy's Hoose

Sandy's Hoose is in Portmahomack, on the Tarbat Peninsula. It's a traditional stone cottage, one of a row, right on the edge of the village. The main thing is the view. You look straight out over the beach and the Dornoch Firth to the hills beyond. Nothing in the way.

It sleeps six. Three bedrooms, two bathrooms. It's a 4 Star place, so it's comfortable and has everything you need. The living room has a woodburning stove. There's a small, enclosed patio garden out the back with a shed for bike storage.

You're about a one minute walk from a big, sandy beach. The village has a shop, a post office, a pub, and a golf club. There's a good restaurant and a bistro too. For history, the Tarbat Discovery Centre is here, all about the Picts. Tarbat Ness lighthouse is a decent walk along the coast.

You can drive down to Inverness in under an hour. That gets you to Loch Ness, Culloden, and Fort George. Going north, Dunrobin Castle near Golspie is impressive, and Dornoch is a nice town. If you fancy a longer trip, you can get the ferry to the Orkney Isles from Scrabster or Gills Bay.

The place is set up for a family. It has a cot, highchair, and stairgate. Bedding and towels are included. There's parking, WiFi, a washing machine, and a dishwasher. You can bring one well-behaved dog.

For planning wider days out, the Visit Scotland Highlands site is useful.
