Garden Cottage is on the Glanusk Estate, just outside Crickhowell in Powys. It's a detached, stone-built cottage. The main thing is it's all on the ground floor, which is good if stairs are a problem. It's Grade II listed, so it's old and full of character, but that means some things are a bit old-fashioned too.
It sleeps four in two bedrooms: one double and one twin. There's one shower room. The rating is 3 Star, which is about right. It's comfortable and clean, but don't expect everything to be brand new. The kitchen is fine for making meals. The lounge has a wood burner, which is lovely when it's cold. The WiFi works.
Outside, you've got your own enclosed garden. It's quite big and private, with lawn and a patio. There's furniture and a BBQ. You also get access to the wider estate grounds, which are hundreds of acres of parkland and woods to walk in. It's very quiet.
Crickhowell itself is a nice little town. There's a shop, a few pubs that do food, and some independent shops. The Brecon Beacons National Park starts practically on the doorstep. You can be up the Sugar Loaf or Pen y Fan in under half an hour if you want a proper walk. Abergavenny is about a 15-minute drive, good for a bigger supermarket or the market. Hay-on-Wye is about 40 minutes if you like books.
In terms of stuff here: there’s parking right outside, a washing machine, a dishwasher, and bedding and towels are included. You can bring up to two dogs. The stairs note in the listing is for the internal spiral staircase to a locked loft, which you won't use. The main living space is all on one level.
