Queen House

Queen House is in Ripley. It's right in the centre of town, next to the co-op. It's a three bedroom house that sleeps eight.

It's a terrace house with decent neighbours either side. You have your own garden out the back with enough chairs. There's a patio area. The bins are kept out there.

Inside, it's clean and tidy. When we bought it, the layout was a bit odd downstairs. So what you've got is a dining room just inside the front door. Then a flight of stairs up to a living room and kitchen on the middle floor. It sleeps eight because there's a sofa bed in that living room.

There are two bathrooms and a shower room. One bathroom, with a shower over the bath, is downstairs. The other shower room is upstairs.

The three bedrooms are upstairs. Two have kingsize beds that can be split into singles if you ask beforehand. The third is a twin. Storage is fine, not massive.

Parking is on street. Buy a £1 scratch card from the co-op or use the PayByPhone app. There's a space outside and usually others nearby.

Everything you'd need for a week is included. Wifi, TV, washing machine, bedding, towels.

Ripley itself is a normal town. It's handy for getting places but not especially pretty. The co-op is excellent. There's a proper butcher a few doors down. A few pubs serve food.

The reason you'd stay here is for the Peak District. It's a ten to fifteen minute drive to the edge of it. You can be walking up Shipley Park or at the Heage Windmill in five minutes.

Matlock Bath, with its arcades and cable car, is about fifteen minutes away. Chatsworth House is around half an hour in the car. For a longer day out, Alton Towers and Kedleston Hall are both about thirty minutes away.

The Peak District National Park website is a good place to start for planning walks: Peak District National Park. The National Trust ones are also useful: National Trust Peak District & Derbyshire.

We accept up to two dogs.
