Cherry Cottage

Cherry Cottage is in Shotley, Suffolk. It’s a two-bedroom cottage that sleeps four. It’s got a 4 Star rating, so it’s comfortable and well-equipped, but not grand.

It’s a rural property right on the edge of the River Orwell. The main living room and the kitchen-diner both look straight out over the water. You get a good, uninterrupted view. There's a patio and an enclosed garden, which is handy if you're bringing dogs or kids.

The stairs are worth mentioning. They’re open tread and quite steep. There’s a stairgate at the top if you need it.

Inside, it's straightforward. Two bedrooms, one bathroom. The kitchen has a dishwasher and there's a washing machine. Bedding and towels are included. There’s a woodburner for colder nights, and the heating and electricity are included. Parking is on site.

You can bring up to two dogs. The garden is secure.

Location wise, it’s quiet. The nearest pub is a short walk away. For a drink right by the water, the Butt and Oyster at Pin Mill is about a mile and a half along the footpath. It's a nice walk. Shotley Marina has a bar and restaurant too, and you can get a foot ferry from there across to Harwich or Felixstowe.

If you want to go further, Ipswich is about 20 minutes by car for shops and cinemas. The Suffolk coast, like Aldeburgh or Southwold, is within a 30 to 40 minute drive. For historic sites, Landguard Fort in Felixstowe or Orford Ness are good options. The Suffolk Coast & Heaths Area site has walking and cycling route information.

That’s about it. It’s a simple, comfortable place by the river.
