Mayflower Cottage
Mayflower Cottage is in Harwich. It's a terraced house, and you're about a two-minute walk from the beach. The clifftop kind, not the sandy kind. Dovercourt Bay, which is sandy, is about half a mile away.
It sleeps six. Two bedrooms, one bathroom. One has a kingsize bed, the other has two singles. It's got a 3 Star rating, so it's clean and does the job but don't expect anything high-end.
The sitting room is on the first floor. It looks out over the green and the water, so you can watch the boats. Big container ships go into Felixstowe, little sailing boats potter about. It's quite nice to watch.
You're right in the old town, so it's historic. The Electric Palace cinema is original, from 1911. The Ha'Penny Pier is good for crabbing. The Harwich Redoubt is a Napoleonic fort you can look around. Harwich has a lot of Mayflower history, if that's your thing.
There are shops, pubs, and places to eat within a few hundred yards. The Thai restaurant nearby is very good. The pubs do decent food.
For days out, Frinton, Walton, and Clacton are along the coast. Colchester is about 20 minutes by car. Train station is close if you want a car-free holiday or a day trip to London.
Facilities: you've got a washing machine, WiFi, an enclosed patio garden, and bedding and towels are included. No pets.
