Needle House is in Cautley, which is a hamlet a few miles outside Sedbergh. It's an old stone farmhouse that's been done up. It's remote. You look out over the Howgill Fells. There are fields and sheep all around. The garden is walled, which is good if you have kids or a dog, but no pets allowed sorry.
It sleeps ten, but four of those are in one big family room at the top of the house. That room has a double bed and two singles. The other three bedrooms are normal sized. There are two bathrooms, both have roll-top baths and showers. The stairs are the original farmhouse stairs. They're fine, but they turn a corner and are a bit uneven in places.
The kitchen is a proper farmhouse kitchen, modern but in an old style. There's a dishwasher. The living room is cosy, with a TV. The WiFi is good though, so you're not completely cut off.
Being here is about the quiet and the walking. You can walk straight out the door onto the fells. The Cautley Spout waterfall is a short walk away. Sedbergh is the nearest proper town, about ten minutes by car. It's a book town with some shops and pubs. Kirkby Stephen is about fifteen minutes the other way.
For a day out, the Yorkshire Dales National Park is right there. The Lake District is about a half hour drive. Kendal is roughly forty minutes if you need a big supermarket or the cinema.
Facilities: all bedding and towels are included. There's a cot and a highchair. Plenty of parking. Washing machine. It's got a 4 Star rating.
