The Wool Loft

The Wool Loft is in Outhgill, in the Eden Valley. It's a small, one-bedroom cottage for two people on a working farm. It's a 4 Star place, which is comfortable and clean, but it's not huge.

It's all on two floors. Downstairs is one open room with the kitchen, a table, and a sofa. The original stone floor is nice, but it's hard, so you might want some slippers. Upstairs is the double bedroom and an en-suite shower room. The floors up there are exposed wood. The views from the windows are over the fields.

Outside, there's an enclosed garden with a table and chairs. It's a good, private spot if the weather's decent.

You're on a proper beef and sheep farm, so you'll see the animals. The farm track is shared, so you need to drive carefully.

For getting around, you really need a car. The nearest proper shop, pub, or place to eat is in Kirkby Stephen, about six miles away. It's a nice little market town. There's a heritage railway station there too, if you fancy a trip on the Settle to Carlisle line.

Where it is good is for walking. You can step out the door straight onto footpaths and quiet lanes. The Howgill Fells are on your doorstep and they're quieter than the lakes. You're about halfway between the Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District, so both are within a 30 minute drive for a day out.

Inside, it's got what you need: a TV, WiFi, a washing machine, and parking. All bedding and towels are included.

If you're planning walks, these sites are useful: Yorkshire Dales National Park and Lake District National Park.
