Heatherdene - Fern Cottage

Fern Cottage is one of a pair of new-build cottages in Barmby Moor, just outside Pocklington. It's detached, so you're not sharing any walls. You've got your own garden, which is fully enclosed, so it's safe for dogs and kids. There's a hot tub on the patio.

It sleeps six, with three bedrooms and one bathroom. One twin bedroom is on the ground floor, which is handy. The main bathroom has just a shower. Upstairs, one of the bedrooms has an en-suite toilet and sink. The ceilings are a bit low in one of the upstairs rooms, so tall people need to watch their heads. It's got a 4 Star rating, which covers all the basics and it's well looked-after.

The village is quiet. There's a good Thai restaurant you can walk to. For a proper shop or a pub, you'd drive into Pocklington, which is about two miles away. That's where you'll find supermarkets and a market on Tuesdays. There's a bus stop right opposite the cottage if you don't want to drive into York.

York is less than half an hour's drive. You can do all the usual things there: the Minster, the Jorvik Centre, shopping. For days out, Castle Howard is close by. The Yorkshire Wolds are right on the doorstep for walking. You can get to the coast in under an hour if you fancy Scarborough or Bridlington.

Facilities wise: it's all there. Washing machine, dishwasher, WiFi, TV, bedding and towels are included. There's off-road parking. You can bring up to two dogs. There's a bike store if you're cycling.
