Parkhurst Cottage

Parkhurst Cottage is in Hillgrove, West Sussex. It's a traditional cottage. Two bedrooms, sleeps four.

The location is very rural. You're at the foot of Black Down, which is the highest hill in the South Downs. The views from the garden are over fields. It's quiet and private. There's a small stream at the side of the garden.

Inside, it's got a living room, separate dining room, and kitchen. The door latches are the old, lifting kind. The stairs go up from the living room. There's one bathroom upstairs with a bath and a shower over it. There's also a separate toilet downstairs.

The main bedroom has a super king bed, but we can split it into two singles if you tell us in advance.

It's got a 4 Star rating. That means it's comfortable and well-equipped. There's a wood burner, wifi, a TV, dishwasher, washing machine. Bedding and towels are included. Parking is right there. Sorry, no pets.

The nearest pub is about a mile away, in Lurgashall. It's a proper village pub on the green. The shop is in Lurgashall too, about two miles. For a bigger shop, you'd go to Haslemere, which is just over the county border in Surrey, about a ten minute drive.

For walking, you're right on Black Down. It's all heath and pine trees. Lots of paths. National Trust Black Down has maps. The South Downs National Park site is useful for planning.

Lurgashall Winery is about a mile from the cottage. They do tours and have a tearoom. Petworth is about a fifteen minute drive. Petworth House is there, with the art and the deer park. Midhurst is about the same distance, with the ruins of Cowdray House.

If you drive northwest for about ten minutes, you get to the Devil's Punch Bowl at Hindhead. It's a big natural hollow. They put the A3 in a tunnel so it's quiet again. Good for a walk.
