Old Rectory Barn is in Fernhurst, which is a village in West Sussex. It's a big old barn from the 1700s, detached, in our grounds. It sleeps ten, has four bedrooms and three bathrooms. It's got a 5 Star rating, which means it's well equipped and comfortable.
The building has its own access, parking, and a private garden so you're entirely separate from the main house. The garden is about an acre, with a big, old cedar tree in it.
Inside, you've got the original beams and stonework, and a flagstone floor. There's an Aga range cooker and a wood burner. It has Wi-Fi and a Smart TV. We leave a welcome pack with shampoo and some essentials. There's also a hairdryer.
The stairs are proper old barn stairs. They're fairly steep and have a turn in them.
The village green is a two minute walk down a footpath from the garden gate. There's a 16th century pub there that does food. That's also where the cricket pitch is. There are tennis courts and a recreation ground next to it.
You can walk straight from the cottage up onto Black Down, which is the highest point in the South Downs. We leave maps and suggested walks for you. Within a half hour walk via footpaths, there are two more pubs. One does good food, the other has an Indian restaurant.
By car, Petworth is about fifteen minutes away. It's got antique shops and Petworth House, which has a big art collection and gardens. Midhurst is about the same distance, known for the polo at Cowdray Park.
For sailing or swimming, Frensham Great Pond is nearby. Goodwood, for the Festival of Speed or the Revival, is about half an hour's drive. Chichester and the beach at West Wittering are about 35 to 45 minutes, depending on traffic.
In terms of facilities, it's all there. Washing machine, dishwasher, bedding and towels included. There's a cot and highchair. Bicycle storage. An electric vehicle charger. There's a games room in what was the old stable. No pets, sorry.
