This is the Old Rectory Loft in Fernhurst. It's a space for two people, up in the roof of our old rectory. You get your own entrance and parking spot out the front.
It's one bedroom and one bathroom. It's a 4 Star place, so it's comfortable and clean. You need to know about the stairs. They're the original ones going up to the loft, so they're steep and a bit narrow. The ceilings up there are sloped in places too. It's fine if you're okay with that, but it's not suitable if you have trouble with mobility.
Inside, it's a mix of the old building – beams and floorboards – and things like a good shower and a woodburning stove. There's a washing machine. Bedding and towels are included. We can leave out a travel cot and highchair if you need them. We've also put an electric vehicle charger in the car park.
The village green is a two minute walk away, along a footpath from the house. There's a 16th century pub there with a garden, does lunch and dinner. It's a good start for walks. You can walk straight out from here up onto Black Down, which is the highest point in the South Downs National Park. The green has a recreation ground too, with tennis courts and sometimes an outdoor café.
If you drive, there's a lot within 15 or 20 minutes. Petworth has the famous house and art collection, and lots of antique shops. Midhurst has Cowdray Park for polo. Frensham Great Pond is good for sailing or a swim. Goodwood is about half an hour away for the Festival of Speed or the Revival. The coast at West Wittering is about 45 minutes, depending on traffic.
