Comptons Oast is a converted oast house on the Platt, near Tunbridge Wells. It's a big, unusual building, set back from the lane on its own land. You can't miss the round towers.
It sleeps six people but there are five bedrooms, so there's extra space. Three bathrooms. It's got a 5 Star rating, which basically means it's well done and finished to a high standard. It's comfortable.
You should know the stairs are unusual. Some are steep and spiral inside the roundels. They're fine if you take your time.
The main thing is the pond. The house looks right over its own private pond. The patio wraps around for sitting out. There's a field beyond that, good for kids to run around in. You can walk around the pond and there are fish in it.
Inside, it's spacious. Two living rooms, so you can spread out. A big kitchen with an Aga. The main bedroom upstairs has good views over the water.
The owners live nearby if you need anything. One well-behaved dog is welcome.
For things to do, you're in the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. There are footpaths everywhere. Ashdown Forest is close, which is good for walking and has the Winnie the Pooh connection. The village of Hartfield is about a ten-minute drive.
Tunbridge Wells is about four miles away. It's a proper town with shops and places to eat. If you want to go further, the coast is about a 30-minute drive. Eastbourne and Brighton are both under an hour.
Facilities: there's parking, wifi, a wood burner, bike storage, and bedding and towels are provided. There's a washing machine. No golf on site, but there are courses locally.
