The Smithy Spittal

The Smithy is in Spittal, in Dumfriesshire. It's a semi-detached cottage that looks out over the River Bladnoch. It's quiet here.

The cottage sleeps four. Two bedrooms, one bathroom. It's a 3 Star place. Everything is on the ground floor. The garden is large and private.

The best thing is the fishing. There's about ten miles of private salmon and trout fishing on the river right outside. It's a serious spot for that.

Inside, there's an open fire in the sitting room. The kitchen has been done up recently. The main bedroom has a good view over the garden to the river.

For getting out, you're surrounded by quiet country lanes for walking or cycling. The 7stanes mountain bike trails at Kirroughtree are about a 25 minute drive. There are several golf courses nearby too.

The Galloway Forest Park is the big attraction if you want proper wild scenery. It's about half an hour away by car. You can see deer and all sorts up there.

The coast is about 20 miles. There are sandy beaches and small villages that way. The nearest pub or restaurant is seven miles off, so you'll be driving for a meal out.

Facilities: there's a washing machine, TV, WiFi, and parking. Bedding and towels are included. You can bring up to two dogs. The electricity is included and the wood for the stove is provided.
