Rose Cottage

Rose Cottage is here in Hythe. It's at the end of a row of cottages on the hill, so you're not looked over. You can see a bit of the sea from the front. It's old, 16th century I think, so mind your head on some of the beams.

It sleeps three people. Two bedrooms and one bathroom. It's got a 3 Star rating. It's comfortable and clean, not a show home. There's a woodburner, which is why people like it outside of summer, and there's a dishwasher and a washing machine.

The hill down into Hythe is steep, but the walk back up gets you fit. The town's a proper Cinque Port, so there's a high street with shops, cafes, and places to eat. The beach is shingle. The Royal Military Canal runs along the bottom of the hill, good for a flat walk or a cycle without going on the road.

If you drive, Folkestone is about ten minutes that way. The Channel Tunnel terminal is there too. Dover, with the castle and ferries, is about twenty minutes. The Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway starts at one end of Hythe, if that's your sort of thing.

You can bring one well-behaved dog. There's parking for one car right by the cottage. Bedding and towels are included.

For planning days out, these are the main ones: National Trust South East and Visit Kent.
