The Cairngorms

The place is on the edge of a campsite, but it's your own detached bungalow. The garden is fenced in, which is good if you've got kids. You can see the river from there.

It's a three-star place. That means everything works and it's clean, but it’s not luxurious. Two bedrooms. One bathroom with a shower. Sleeps four. The beds are made up for you.

Because it's all on one level, and the doorways are wide, it's okay for a wheelchair. The path to the front door is gravel though, which can be a bit soft.

The village shop is just down the lane, maybe fifty yards. The pub's a short walk, about two minutes. They do food.

You're right by Strathpeffer, which is that old spa town. It's about ten minutes in the car. From the house, you can sometimes see red kites circling.

Inverness is half an hour's drive. Loch Ness is about the same, if you want to go monster spotting. The Moray Coast, with some good beaches, is under an hour. The real Cairngorms National Park is maybe forty-five minutes to an hour east, for walking. If you're thinking of Skye, that's a longer day out, over two hours from here.

There are a few other chalets nearby owned by the same people, so you can rent a few together if you're a bigger group.
