Gilminscroft Gatehouse is in Sorn, in the Ayrshire countryside. It's a detached little cottage, a former gatehouse on a private estate. You have your own garden area and it's quiet because it's set back from the road. The view from the front looks out over fields towards the Isle of Arran. The sunsets from there can be really good.
It sleeps four, but in one bedroom. There's a double bed and then a double sofa bed in the living area. It's rated 3 Star, which is about right. It's comfortable and clean, not fancy. The bathroom is downstairs. There's a shower, no bath.
You can bring one dog. There's parking right outside the door.
The estate grounds are nice to walk around. There's a summerhouse in the garden you can use. The village pub is about a mile away in Sorn, they do food. The local shop is in Mauchline, about two miles.
For walks, the River Ayr Way is right on the doorstep. You can also get to the Ayrshire Coastal Path in about half an hour. Dumfries House is three miles away, it's a big draw for the area. Golf is nearby, as is the racing at Ayr.
Further out, you can drive to Culzean Castle and its country park in about 45 minutes. Glasgow is under an hour if you want a city day. The ferry to Arran goes from Ardrossan, which is about 40 minutes by car.
In the cottage you've got a washing machine, TV, and bedding and towels are included. There's bicycle storage if you need it.
If you're planning trips, the National Trust for Scotland page for Culzean is useful, as is the Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park site for that area.
