The Shieling Lochranza

The Shieling is in Lochranza, which is on the north end of Arran. It's a ground floor apartment that's part of a detached house. The main thing is the view. You look straight out over the water to Kintyre.

It sleeps four. There are three bedrooms but one is quite small, more of a single really. One bathroom with a shower. It's a 3 Star place, so it's comfortable and clean. You won't be staying somewhere fancy.

You're basically on the shore. The beach is about 50 yards away, just shingle. The local pub and the distillery restaurant are a few minutes' walk. For a bigger shop, you'd need to drive to Brodick.

Lochranza is good for ferries. The small one goes over to Claonaig on the Kintyre peninsula every half hour or so in summer. From there, you can get to Islay or Jura if you want a day trip. The CalMac timetables are online.

Arran itself has got everything. Walking in the hills up Goatfell, beaches, villages. You see a lot of red deer and seals around here. For a day out, Brodick Castle is a good one, run by the National Trust for Scotland.

Inside, there's a washing machine and a dishwasher. The garden is enclosed, which is handy if you're bringing dogs. We accept up to two. Towels and bedding are included. There's a cot and a highchair if you need them. Parking is right there.
