Marjorie’s Cottage is just outside Otter Ferry on the banks of Loch Fyne. It’s a single-storey cottage for two people.
You’re basically in the middle of the Home Farm estate here. The cottage looks out onto a shared courtyard, but you’ve got your own front door and it feels private. Out the back, you can walk straight into about 150 acres of woods. You’ll see deer, birds, that sort of thing. The river Ruel runs through it, and you’re allowed to fish for trout and salmon. There’s a fishing hut a little way along.
The inside is one open-plan room. The kitchen’s at one end, living area in the middle, and the bed at the other end. Everything you need is there. The bathroom is an en-suite, off the bedroom. It’s a 4 Star place, so it’s comfortable and well looked after.
You’re quite remote. The nearest place for a proper shop is about 13 miles away in Tighnabruaich. There’s a small summer shop next to the farm sometimes, but I’d do a big shop before you come. The Oystercatcher, which is the local pub, is about 7 miles up the road in Otter Ferry itself. They do good food.
Tighnabruaich is about a 20 minute drive. It’s a pretty village on the water with a small beach, a few shops, and a 9-hole golf course. For one of the best views around, drive another five minutes to the lookout over the Kyles of Bute. It’s worth it.
Facilities wise: It has a dishwasher, washing machine, TV with satellite, and WiFi. There’s parking right outside. Bedding and towels are included. I can provide a cot and a highchair if you need them. No pets, sorry.
