The Byre is on the estate at Home Farm, near Otter Ferry. It's part of a group of converted farm buildings around a courtyard. You're looking out over fields and trees, not other houses really.
It sleeps five. Three bedrooms and two bathrooms, which is handy. One bathroom is downstairs. It's got a 4 Star rating. That means it's properly comfortable, everything works, and it's been done up well. The kitchen is open plan with the living area.
You've got 150 acres of the estate grounds to walk around. There's a fishing hut by the River Ruel if you fancy it. The river is a beat for trout and salmon, but you'd need to sort a permit.
The nearest pub for a meal is about seven miles away in Colintraive. There's a small summer shop next to the estate, but the main supermarket is in Dunoon, about 13 miles. You'll want to bring your shopping with you.
For a day out, Tighnabruaich is six miles. It's a pretty village on the water with a small beach and a nine-hole golf course. The view over the Kyles of Bute from there is the one you see on the postcards. Otter Ferry itself is just a slipway and an old pub building, but it's a peaceful spot on the loch.
Facilities: There's a washing machine and dishwasher. Wifi and TV. Parking right outside. Bedding and towels are included. One well-behaved dog is welcome. We can provide a cot and highchair.
Useful links: National Trust for Scotland for local places like Benmore Botanic Garden, and Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park is about a 30-minute drive inland.
