This is Helvetia. It's right on the beach at Dungeness. You get the whole place. The view is the main thing. It looks straight out over the shingle and the Channel. The owner's left a telescope inside. You can watch the ships, or the birds, or the stars if it's clear.
It sleeps four. Two bedrooms and one bathroom. It's a 4 Star place, so it's well kept. Inside, it's been done up with a 1930s feel. There are some art deco bits and pieces. It's comfortable.
The wood burner works. It's good for cooler evenings. There's a TV and WiFi, and a washing machine. All the bedding and towels are included. You can park right there.
You're on the shingle beach. You can walk out the door and straight onto it. The whole of Dungeness is around you. It's a strange, open landscape. It's an RSPB reserve. RSPB Dungeness has details on the birds you might see.
The old lighthouse is a short walk away. The Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway stops at Dungeness too. You can get a little steam train to Hythe or New Romney.
If you drive, Romney Marsh is all around. Folkestone and the Channel Tunnel are about 20 minutes away. Dover Castle and the White Cliffs are maybe 35 minutes. English Heritage Dover Castle is worth a look if you're into history.
