Wild Boar Cottage

It’s called Wild Boar Cottage, but no, there aren’t any wild boars. It’s just a name. It’s up on the Long Rigg Estate, near Sedbergh. It’s a bungalow, so it’s all on one level, which people seem to like. It’s detached and you get the place to yourself.

It sleeps six. Three bedrooms, and each one has its own bathroom. That’s probably the main thing. The living area is open plan, and there’s a wood burner. The French doors open onto a stone patio. The garden slopes away a bit, but there’s a nice flat bit to sit out on.

It’s got a 5 Star rating. That means it’s well-equipped and everything should be in good order. There’s a dishwasher, WiFi, and parking right outside.

Location wise, it’s very quiet. You’re on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. The views are good. Because it’s up there and there’s not much light pollution, the night sky is very clear if you’re into stargazing.

Sedbergh is the nearest town, about a ten minute drive. It’s a small market town, known for being a book town. There are a few shops and cafes. The Black Bull does food. For walking, you’re right by the Howgill Fells. Winder Fell is the classic local walk, straight up from the town.

Within half an hour you can get to Kirkby Lonsdale, or over into the Lake District. Kendal is about twenty five minutes. The Dales Way path goes through here if you’re doing long distance walking.

A few useful links for planning: Yorkshire Dales National Park and Lake District National Park.

No pets, I’m afraid. Bedding and towels are included.
