Aird Steading Cottage is on the Craignish peninsula near Ardfern. It’s a detached, single-storey cottage that used to be part of the farm here. It sleeps two.
The main thing about this place is the view. You can see Loch Craignish out one side, and out the other you look west over to the islands – Jura, Scarba, Mull, Luing. You can see the Corryvreckan whirlpool channel between Jura and Scarba from the garden on a clear day. There are a few secluded little bays within a short walk from the cottage.
Inside, it’s comfortable and warm. There’s a wood burner in the living room. The bathroom has a spa bath. The bed is a super king size. It’s got a 5 Star rating, so everything is in good order.
The cottage is on a working farm, so you might see some animals around. The garden is enclosed and it’s just for you.
Ardfern village is about two and a half miles away. It has a shop, a post office, a pub that does food, and a marina. You can arrange boat trips, sailing, or fishing from there.
For a bigger town, Lochgilphead is about a 20-minute drive. It has supermarkets, more shops, and a swimming pool. Oban is further, maybe 45 minutes. That’s where you get the main ferries to islands like Mull. If you’re a golfer, there are courses on Seil Island, at Lochgilphead, and in Oban.
The facilities are all included: bedding, towels, washing machine, dishwasher. There’s parking right outside. No pets, I’m afraid.
If you’re planning trips, these sites are useful: Visit Scotland Island Hopping and National Trust for Scotland Kilmartin Museum. Kilmartin Glen for the ancient sites is about a 15-minute drive.
