Barrach

Barrach is one of a kind. An architect designed it for the site, so it looks modern but belongs here. It's about half a mile up a private farm track, so it's properly quiet. You'll see our house from it, but you're on your own.

It sleeps six but there are only two bedrooms. That's the quirk. One bedroom is on the ground floor and the bed can be a king or two singles. The other bedroom is upstairs in the gallery, looking over the living area. That one has a king-size bed and two small single cabin beds built into the eaves. It's a family room really. There are two bathrooms, one with a shower.

The main space is all open plan with a high ceiling and a wood burner. It's a good room for everyone to be together. The garden is south-facing and enclosed. You can bring up to two dogs.

You can walk to the shore of Loch Craignish in a few minutes. There's a sheltered lagoon there that's good for paddling. If you walk up the track behind the house to Barr Mor, the view is incredible. You can see right across to Jura.

Ardfern village is about two miles away. It has a pub that does food, a cafe, a shop, and a marina. You can arrange sailing or fishing from there.

Kilmartin Glen is about ten minutes by car. It's full of ancient sites: standing stones, burial cairns, that sort of thing. The museum there is worth a visit. The Moine Mhor National Nature Reserve is right next to it.

Oban is roughly 25 miles north. It's the main ferry port for the islands. Inveraray, to the east, is about the same distance. Lochgilphead is closer, maybe 15 miles, and has a supermarket, a swimming pool, and a golf course.

The house has pretty much everything: wifi, washing machine, dishwasher. Bedding and towels are included. We provide a cot, highchair, and stairgate if you need them. There's parking right outside.

For more information on the area, National Trust for Scotland Kilmartin Glen and Walkhighlands Argyll are useful.
