Ellen Cottage

Ellen Cottage is in Fulbrook, which is basically Burford's quieter neighbour. It's about a ten minute walk into Burford, so you can leave the car.

The cottage is three hundred years old, so it's full of old bits. Stone walls, beams, an inglenook fireplace. The floors are flagstone in places, so they're uneven. The stairs are steep. It's a proper old cottage, so mind your head on the beams.

It sleeps six. There are three bedrooms. The main one has a big four-poster bed and an ensuite with both a bath and a shower. The other two rooms, a double and a twin, are up their own small staircase from the living room.

You enter into a small snug area, then go up a few steps to the main living and dining room. There's a wood burner there. The kitchen is a shaker style, it has what you need. There's a separate utility room with a washing machine. Patio doors lead out from the living room to a raised terrace. It gets the sun.

There's a pub in the village you can walk to, and a small shop. Burford has more: several pubs, cafes, butchers, and a Co-op. It's a nice spot for just mooching about.

For a day out, the Cotswold Wildlife Park is very close. Bourton-on-the-Water and Stow-on-the-Wold are about a fifteen to twenty minute drive. Cheltenham is around forty minutes, Oxford is about half an hour. There's fishing and golf nearby if that's your thing.

The cottage has a 4 Star rating. It's comfortable and well-finished. There's parking for two cars on the drive, and bedding and towels are included. No pets, sorry.

If you're planning visits, the National Trust and Cotswolds.com sites are useful.
