Shawdon Hill Cottage

Shawdon Hill Cottage is on the edge of Glanton. It's a proper old stone cottage, built in the 1830s. It's been done up inside though, so it's comfortable. It's detached and sits on its own, so you've got the garden to yourself.

It sleeps six, across three bedrooms. One king, one double, and one super king that can be two twins if you need it. There's one bathroom upstairs, with a shower over the bath. There's a separate loo downstairs by the utility room.

The stairs are fairly typical for an old cottage. They're not a ladder, but they are a bit steeper than modern ones.

Inside, it's light. The main living room has big windows looking out over the fields. There's a second snug as well, which is handy if someone wants to watch telly while others are reading. The kitchen's open plan to the dining area. It's got everything you'd need, dishwasher included.

The garden is on different levels, with a lawn and then some raised bits that go back into a bit of woodland. You can sit up there and look out at the Cheviot Hills. It's very quiet.

You're right by the A697, which sounds busy but you don't really hear it. It just means you can get to places easily. The nearest pub is about a mile and a half away in Glanton. Alnwick is eight miles for shops, the castle, and the gardens. Rothbury is about nine miles, that's where Cragside is. Wooler's eleven miles, good for walking gear and cafes.

If you want the coast, it's about a fifteen minute drive east. Craster, Howick, those sorts of places. There are castles everywhere up here. If you're into walking or cycling, you can just go straight from the door, or drive a short way into the hills.

Facilities: WiFi, TV, washing machine, parking for a couple of cars. The garden is enclosed. It's got wheelchair access to the ground floor. One well-behaved dog is welcome. All bedding and towels are included.
