Little Fern is on our farm in Meldon, which is just outside Okehampton. It's annexed from our house. The cottage is all on the ground floor. It sleeps two, with one bedroom and an en-suite shower room.
It's got a 3 Star rating. That means it's clean and comfortable. It's not a fancy place, but it's got what you need. There's an open plan living area with a kitchen, a sofa and a TV. The kitchen has a cooker, a slimline dishwasher, a fridge and a microwave. The garden is enclosed, which is handy if you bring a dog. There's a bistro set out there that gets the sun.
You're on a working farm, so you'll see and hear farm things. Sheep, tractors, that sort of thing. The lane is quiet, but you will hear the A30 in the distance when it's windy. It's very handy for getting around.
Okehampton is about a ten minute drive. There's a Tesco, a few pubs that do food, and some other shops. The town has a leisure centre, a park by the river, and a castle. Okehampton Castle is one of the oldest Norman castles in Devon.
For walks, you can pick up the Granite Way or the Two Castles Trail nearby. Lydford Gorge is about a 20 minute drive. Dartmoor is right on the doorstep. Meldon Reservoir is close by for a shorter stroll.
The north coast beaches like Bude and Woolacombe are about a 50 minute drive. Cornwall is easily accessible from here. The Dartmoor National Park website is good for planning walks.
Facilities include WiFi, parking, and bedding and towels. One well-behaved dog is welcome.
