Birkerthwaite Cottage Beckfoot

Birkerthwaite Cottage is at Beckfoot, near Eskdale. It's one of a few cottages grouped around an old farm. It's well off the beaten track, down an unmade road, so it's very quiet. You're looking out at moorland and farmland, with good views of Scafell.

It sleeps five in three bedrooms, with one bathroom. It's a 4 Star place, so it's comfortable and well looked after. The stairs are a bit steep.

The living area is upstairs, which is different. It's open plan with wooden floors and a door out to a balcony overlooking the gardens. The beams in there are interesting, they're supposed to be from local shipwrecks.

The nearest pub is about two and a half miles away. The shop is three miles. You'll need a car.

For walking, you're right in it. You can start from the door. If you want to drive, Wast Water is close, and the Langdale Pikes and Ambleside are about forty minutes away over Hardknott Pass. That drive is spectacular but the road is very steep and narrow.

There's Muncaster Castle and the Hardknott Roman Fort nearby. The Ravenglass and Eskdale steam railway is a good day out, especially with kids. The west coast beaches are about half an hour's drive.

In terms of what's here: there's a washing machine, WiFi, TV, parking right outside, and an enclosed garden. You can bring one dog. The bedding is included. There's a stairgate if you need it. It's on a working farm, so you might see sheep.
