Birkerthwaire Stable

Birkerthwaite Stable is in Beckfoot, up a long track at the end of the road. It's part of an old farmstead. We're up high here, so it's quiet and the views are good. You can see Scafell from outside.

It's a one-bedroom place, sleeps two. It used to be a stable, so it's all on one level. There's a wood burner that does most of the heating. It's got a 4 Star rating. The beams are interesting, they're from old shipwrecks off the coast.

The track up is unmade, so it's a bit bumpy. That's just how it is. You get your own parking space.

Inside, it's open plan. There's a TV, WiFi, a washing machine. Bedding is included. You can bring one dog. It's on a working farm, so sometimes there are animals about.

The pub is about two and a half miles away in Boot. The nearest shop is three miles.

For walking, you're right in it. You can start from the door. Wast Water is a short drive. If you fancy a drive out, going over the Hardknott and Wrynose passes to Langdale or Ambleside is a good trip. The Roman fort at Hardknott is nearby. Muncaster Castle is down towards the coast. You can also get the Ravenglass and Eskdale steam train from the bottom of the valley.
