This is the Stable. It's one of four cottages here at Birkerthwaite. The whole place used to be a farmstead, from the 1600s I think. Some of the beams inside came from old shipwrecks off the coast.
It's up in the hills, at the end of a track. You're surrounded by moorland and fields. Very quiet. The view looks out over the Eskdale Valley towards Scafell.
The cottage itself is all on one floor, it was a stable originally. It sleeps two. One bedroom, one bathroom. It's got a log burner that heats the radiators too. It's a 4 Star place, so it's comfortable. The building is old though, so mind your head on the beams.
You can bring one dog. There's parking right outside. It has WiFi and a TV, and a washing machine. All bedding is included.
For walks, you just step outside the door. For a drive, going over the Hardknott and Wrynose passes to Langdale or Ambleside is an experience. The road is very narrow and steep in parts. Muncaster Castle is nearby, and so is the Hardknott Roman Fort. The Ravenglass and Eskdale steam railway is a good day out. Wast Water is a short drive away.
The nearest pub is about two and a half miles down in the valley. The nearest shop is in Eskdale Green, about three miles.
