Uist

It's called 'Uist'. It's one of four holiday huts on the edge of Stornoway. They're these big, bespoke wooden huts, not what you'd picture when you think 'hut'. They feel spacious inside.

It's an open-plan studio so it's all one room. There's a double bed and a double sofa bed, so it sleeps up to four if you don't mind the arrangement. It's officially for two. One bathroom with a good-sized shower. The kitchenette is small but well thought out. You get a TV and wifi.

The big practical thing is the separate laundry hut. It's got a washing machine, drying racks, and a dehumidifier. It's really useful if you've been out walking or cycling in the weather. It's a shared space for the four huts.

Location is the main point. You can walk into Stornoway town centre in about ten minutes. That means you can go for a meal or a drink without worrying about driving or taxis. Lews Castle and the museum are just a few minutes' walk away. There's a Saturday market in town for local stuff.

For getting out, you're well placed. The Callanish Standing Stones are about a twenty-minute drive. The Garenin Blackhouse Village is under half an hour. Luskentyre beach on Harris is about an hour's drive. It's a good base for the whole island.

In terms of facilities on site: there's parking, a small private garden area, and the laundry I mentioned. Bedding and towels are included. There's a cot and highchair if you need them. One well-behaved dog is welcome. The rating is 3 Star, which fits; it's comfortable and clean, not luxury.
