Converted Stable No 1 :

This is Converted Stable Number 1. It’s on our farm in Great Sampford, out in the Essex countryside. We live next door in the main house.

We turned it from an old stable in 2019. It’s all open plan inside, so the kitchen, living area and bed are in one room. There’s a separate bathroom with a good shower. It’s got a 4 Star rating. It’s comfortable and new, but it’s compact, obviously.

Outside your front door there’s a private patio with a table and chairs. The view is just over our fields. Access is via a gravel drive, and you can park right there.

The location is quiet. You can walk straight out from the door into the lanes and footpaths. The nearest pub is about a mile away in the village, it’s friendly. If you want to explore proper villages, Finchingfield is very close. Saffron Walden and Thaxted are old market towns about a 15 minute drive. Thaxted has a famous Morris dancing weekend.

Cambridge is half an hour’s drive for a day out. Newmarket, for the races, is about 40 minutes.

Facilities are what you’d expect: Wi-Fi, TV, parking. Bedding and towels are included. No pets, sorry. We run a working farm here, and we also do B&B in the main house.

If you’re planning trips, the National Trust Essex page lists their local places.
