The Dutch Barn
The Dutch Barn is on our farm in Ashdon, Essex. It's a converted barn we finished in 2020, so everything's clean and works properly. It has a 5 Star rating.
It sleeps ten people. There are five bedrooms and, usefully, five bathrooms. No one has to queue.
The main living space is all open plan. It's big. There's underfloor heating and a wood burner for cooler weather. We've put speakers in each room that you can connect to via bluetooth. Outside, there's a large patio, an enclosed lawn, a barbecue, and a hot tub.
You can walk to two pubs from here, both do food. The village shop is about four miles away, so you'll want to drive for a big shop.
The barn is on the edge of our arable farm, so you look out over fields. You're welcome to walk around the farm tracks. There's coarse fishing available about a ten minute walk away, on the farm.
Saffron Walden is close. It's a proper market town with interesting buildings and a market twice a week. Audley End House and Gardens is a good day out. Cambridge is about a 35 minute drive if you fancy seeing the colleges or going punting.
For walks and cycling, the local area is good. For more structured routes, the Essex County Council Country Parks site has maps and ideas.
In terms of things here: all bedding and towels are included. There's a washing machine, dishwasher, a cot and a highchair. Parking is right outside. Sorry, no pets.
We also own the barn next door, The Hayloft. The two can be booked together if you have a larger group.
