The Dutch Barn is in Water End, near Ashdon village in Essex. It's a converted farm building on the edge of our arable farm. We finished the conversion in 2020 so everything is still fairly new.
It sleeps ten people. Five bedrooms, each with its own bathroom. It's got a 5 Star rating, which in practice means it's well-equipped and finished to a high standard. Underfloor heating runs throughout. There's a Bluetooth sound system with speakers in every room, if you want to play music.
The main living area is open plan. There's a wood burning stove for colder evenings. Doors lead out to a large patio and an enclosed lawned garden. There's a hot tub on the patio. You can use the barbecue.
Being a farm, the views are over fields. You can walk around the farm tracks. There's coarse fishing available on the grounds, about a ten minute walk from the barn.
In the village, about three quarters of a mile away, there are two pubs that serve food. A shop is four miles away in Saffron Walden. Saffron Walden is a medieval market town, worth a visit. The market is on Tuesdays and Saturdays.
Audley End House is about a fifteen minute drive. That's a good day out. Cambridge is roughly 35 minutes by car if you want to see the university or go punting.
For walks or cycle routes, the local area is good for that. There's a golf course nearby too.
Facilities: everything you'd expect is included. Washing machine, dishwasher, TVs, WiFi. Bedding and towels are provided. There's a cot and highchair if needed. Plenty of on-site parking. No pets, I'm afraid.
This barn can be booked together with the one next door, The Hayloft, if you need space for more people.
