Ivy Todd Barn is on our bit of land in Church End. It’s a converted barn on the livery yard here. You get the place to yourselves, with a little courtyard that looks out over the fields.
It sleeps six, but it’s a bit unusual. Three bedrooms and three bathrooms. There’s a double bedroom downstairs with its own shower room. Upstairs, there’s another bedroom with zip-link beds that can be a twin or a king. That has an en-suite too. Then, above the kitchen, there’s a galleried area with a day bed and a pull-out trundle bed underneath. That’s where the third sleeping space is. The stairs up to the gallery are steep, more like a ladder really, so it’s not for everyone. The ceilings are high and there are a lot of exposed beams, so watch your head if you’re tall.
It’s a 4 Star place. That means it’s comfortable and well-equipped. There’s underfloor heating downstairs and a wood burner in the living area. The kitchen has a dishwasher and washing machine. All bedding and towels are included. It’s got a good wifi connection. We’ve made it wheelchair accessible to the ground floor, so the downstairs bedroom and shower room are level.
You’re out in the countryside here. The local pub is about a mile’s walk down the lane. The nearest shop is a good drive, about five miles to Saffron Walden, so you’ll want to come with supplies.
For a day out, Saffron Walden is a nice market town. Audley End House and Gardens is about a 20 minute drive. Cambridge is under half an hour away if you fancy the sights there. For a walk, Hatfield Forest is about 25 minutes by car.
No pets, sorry. There’s parking for two cars right outside.
