Mains Of Auchmedden Cottage

This is Mains of Auchmedden Cottage. It's on the hill above Pennan. The view from the garden is straight out over the bay. It's a detached house, about a hundred years old, so you've got the stone floors and thick walls.

It sleeps four. Two double bedrooms and one bathroom. It's a 3 Star place, so it's comfortable and clean but not luxurious. The water comes from its own spring in the rock, which is unusual. It’s fine to drink.

You're about a mile and a half from the beach at Aberdour. Pennan village itself is down the hill. There's a pub there, the Pennan Inn, about a mile away. The shop is a bit further.

If you like walking, the coastal path is right there. For birdwatching, RSPB Troup Head is four miles north. You can see the puffins in season. The villages along the coast, like Crovie and Gardenstown, are worth a look. They're very dramatic, built right into the cliffs.

Fraserburgh is about a fifteen minute drive. It has a few cafes and the lighthouse museum. Banff and Macduff are maybe twenty minutes the other way. That's where the aquarium is, and Duff House if you like history.

Facilities: it's got a woodburning stove, an enclosed garden, and parking for two cars. There's a washing machine, WiFi, and a TV. Bedding and towels are included. You can bring up to two dogs. There's a cot and a highchair if you need them.

Useful links: NatureScot for local reserves, and Aberdeenshire Council Archaeology if you're interested in the local history.
