Thornbank
Thornbank is just outside Millport on the Isle of Cumbrae. It’s on the main road about a hundred yards from the beach.
The house sleeps nine people. There are four bedrooms and two bathrooms. It’s got a 4 Star rating, so it’s well equipped. One of the bathrooms has a walk-in shower, which can be handy.
You can walk into Millport town centre in five minutes. There’s the Crocodile Rock, which is the famous rock, a few cafes and pubs, and Britain’s narrowest house. The smallest cathedral in Europe is here too.
The beach is sandy, with a promenade. There are tropical palms by the shore. It’s a proper seaside town. The ferry from Largs takes about ten minutes and runs all the time in summer.
The island is very flat, so it’s popular with cyclists. You can hire bikes at the pier. There’s a marine research station with a museum and aquarium, and a water sports centre for kayaking.
For facilities, it’s got most things: WiFi, a woodburning stove, dishwasher, washing machine, and bedding and towels are included. There’s a patio garden out the back. You can bring up to two dogs.
If you want to go further, Largs on the mainland is the nearest bigger town, just a ferry ride away. You can drive to the Ayrshire coast, or up towards Loch Lomond, all within an hour or so.
