The Cottage

The Cottage is in Glenmidge, which is a hamlet in Dumfriesshire. It's semi-detached and next to our house. The main thing is it's old, 18th century, and it's got its own waterwheel in the garden. The Glenmidge Burn runs past, and you might see an otter.

It's for two people. One bedroom, one bathroom. It's got a 4 Star rating. The bed is in the eaves upstairs, so you need to be okay with that. The ceiling up there is sloped.

You're right in the hills and forest. We get roe deer, foxes, badgers, and a lot of birds of prey. The Kirkpatrick Macmillan Cycle Trail goes past the door. There are walking and biking trails straight from the cottage, but the valley roads are flat if you prefer that.

The local history is interesting. There's an old tower ruin less than a mile away. Drumlanrig Castle is about 8 miles. It's a proper castle you can visit, with grounds and a cycle centre. Drumlanrig Castle. The farm where Robert Burns wrote Auld Lang Syne, Ellisland, is 3 miles away and is a museum.

Dumfries is 9 miles for shops and places to eat. The nearest pub is 2 miles. For fishing, the River Nith and River Cairn are both about 2 miles away. Day tickets are available. There are golf courses at Thornhill and Dumfries.

What's here: the garden is enclosed, there's parking, a BBQ, WiFi, TV, a washing machine, and bedding is included. We allow up to two pets. There's a cot and highchair if you need them.
