Liftingstane Farmhouse
Liftingstane Farmhouse is our place near Thornhill. It's a detached farmhouse, so you're on your own out there. It was done up a few years back.
Sleeps eight, four bedrooms, two bathrooms. The rating is five star, which means it's well-equipped and comfortable. The main thing is the big open plan room at the back. Kitchen, dining, and sitting area all in one. There's a separate living room with a wood burner for colder nights. The views from there are good, just fields and hills.
It's a rural spot. The nearest shop is about a mile away. There's a pub and a restaurant in Thornhill, three miles. Thornhill has an 18-hole golf course if that's your thing.
You're in the Nith Valley. Good for walking and cycling. The 7 Stanes mountain biking trails are nearby. Drumlanrig Castle is close. For a longer day out, the Galloway Forest Park is about forty minutes by car. It's a Dark Sky Park, so good for stargazing if it's clear.
Dumfries is twenty minutes south. It's a proper town with shops, a cinema, a swimming pool, things like that. The coast at places like Kippford or Southerness is maybe forty-five minutes.
In terms of stuff: there's a dishwasher, washing machine, WiFi, parking right outside. The garden is enclosed. You can bring up to two dogs. All bedding and towels are provided.
The house name comes from an old "lifting stone" that used to be here. They were for testing strength. No idea where it went.
