The Bothy, set above the pretty coastal village of Portpatrick, offers commanding views of the surrounding farmland and the Irish Sea. This detached single-storey cottage has been renovated in 2019 to a good standard, with a bright and airy open plan living space and picture windows making the most of the view. The best view, however, is from the attached sun room, where you can sit back and relax, spotting wildlife and watching the ferry go to and from Ireland in the distance.
The Bothy is a 2 mile drive into the lovely coastal village of Portpatrick, with its charming fishing harbour, putting green and quirky small shops, or why not take a stroll down quiet country lanes into the village and enjoy a lovely meal, overlooking the harbour. Alternatively, the owner is a trained chef and can provide a choice of freshly cooked dinners for guests, by arrangement.
Whilst the peace and tranquillity of this property may be all you want, you may not want to stray far. This delightful area, known as The Rhins of Galloway, has scenic walks along the Southern Upland Way, a coast to coast pathway, or explore the many other attractions that ’The Rhins’ has to offer. The Mull of Galloway, the most southerly point in Scotland, is home to the Mull of Galloway Lighthouse where you can observe the various sea birds in season. There is also a visitor centre, gift shop and café. To the north of The Rhins is Corsewall Lighthouse from where you can enjoy the views and a meal in the restaurant. There are also beautiful gardens on The Rhins including Logan Botanic Gardens, and Castle Kennedy Gardens are a little further afield. There is a golf course in the village and further afield is the county course, an 18-hole true links course, situated on the shores of Luce Bay. Take a boat trip from the harbour, fish from the harbour walls or just sit and watch the world go by. Beach 2 miles. Shop, pub and restaurant 2 miles.
