The Cottage

The Cottage is a big family house right on the edge of St Margaret's at Cliffe, looking out over the channel. It sleeps twelve, with six bedrooms and three bathrooms. It's got a 4 Star rating.

The main thing is the view. It looks straight out over the sea. Four of the bedrooms face the water. There's a deck that runs along the front where you can sit outside.

Inside, it’s spacious. The kitchen has a Rangemaster cooker and you can eat in there or in the separate dining room. French doors lead out from each end. There's a log burner in the living room for cooler days.

It's set up for a crowd. There are two games rooms. One is in the house with table football. The other is in the separate garage and has table tennis, a pool table, darts, and a few other things. There's a kitchenette and sofa in there too. That games room isn't heated, so it can be chilly. There's also a private hot tub.

A few things to note plainly. The property lists "open, steep, spiral or narrow stairs". Pets are allowed, up to four. Bedding and towels are included.

The village is about a ten minute walk away. There are a couple of pubs, restaurants, and a shop. The beach at St Margaret's Bay is a short walk down the cliff. It's famous as the starting point for channel swimmers. The white chalk cliffs and the South Foreland Lighthouse are right there on the coastal path.

Dover is about ten minutes by car for the castle and ferries. Deal and Walmer Castle are within half an hour. Canterbury is about seventeen miles away. You can walk to the lighthouse, or along the cliffs to Dover. The National Trust White Cliffs site has good walking information.

If you're thinking of going over to France, the ferry from Dover takes about an hour and a half to Calais.
