20 Roag is a cottage in Roag, on the North West of Skye. It’s a detached house, so no neighbours through the walls. The garden is yours.
It sleeps six. Three bedrooms, two bathrooms. One of the bedrooms is downstairs with its own ensuite, which is handy if you don't fancy the stairs much. The stairs are normal cottage stairs, a bit steeper than you get in a new house.
It’s got a 4 Star rating. It’s comfortable and has everything you need. There’s a multi-fuel stove in the lounge, and the kitchen has a dishwasher and a washing machine. Bedding and towels are included. You can bring up to two dogs.
The main thing is the view. It looks out over the loch. You can see it from the lounge and the dining room. From the back you can see MacLeod's Tables, which are those flat-topped hills. They’re a good walk if you don’t want to tackle the Cuillins.
Dunvegan is about four miles away. That’s where you’ll find a shop, a cafe, and a couple of places to eat. Dunvegan Castle is there too. It’s the oldest continuously lived-in castle in Scotland. You can go inside and the gardens are nice.
From the castle, it’s a short drive to Coral Beach. It’s white shell sand, really lovely. You might see cows on the beach in summer, which is a bit of a surprise.
For a boat trip to see seals, you can go from Loch Dunvegan. If you like whisky, the Talisker distillery is in Carbost, which is about a 25 minute drive south.
The big walking spots like the Old Man of Storr and the Quiraing are within half an hour. They’re as amazing as the pictures, but they get busy.
