The Hornbill

The Hornbill is a detached apartment at Home Farm in Hughley, Shropshire. It's just off the A458, so it's easy to get to from Shrewsbury or Bridgnorth, but feels quiet once you're here.

It's a one-bedroom place, but it sleeps three. There’s a super king bed in the main room and a single bed tucked away in a separate nook. One bathroom with a walk-in shower. It’s got a 4 Star rating. The layout is all open-plan, so the kitchen, sitting area and bed are all in one big space. There are big doors that open out onto your own private patio.

The owners have a thing for Borneo, so there’s some art and decoration from there. It’s nicely done. They’ve put in a wood burner for cooler nights. There’s a hot tub on the patio, which you have to yourselves.

You’re welcome to wander around the wider farm grounds. There’s a pond. They can lend you picnic blankets and baskets. There’s also a yoga studio and therapy room on site if you want to book a treatment, but that’s separate and you arrange it directly with them.

For getting around, they’ve got a couple of bikes you can borrow. The lane outside is fine for cycling, but it’s not a dedicated track.

Location wise, you’re in the middle of the Shropshire Hills. The Long Mynd and Carding Mill Valley are about a 15 minute drive away for walking. Attingham Park (National Trust) is about 20 minutes. Shrewsbury town is about 15 minutes in the car. Ironbridge Gorge, a UNESCO site with all the museums, is about a 25 minute drive.

In terms of facilities, it’s got the things you’d expect: WiFi, TV, dishwasher, washing machine. Bedding and towels are included. There’s parking right outside. You can bring one dog. The garden is enclosed, but it's not totally escape-proof for a very determined dog, so you’ll need to keep an eye out.
