Criffel Cottage Ruthwell

Criffel Cottage is in Ruthwell, on the Solway Coast in Dumfriesshire. It's a detached cottage, converted from an old bothy. It sleeps four, in two downstairs bedrooms, with the bathroom on that floor too.

It's an upside-down design, so the main living area is upstairs. That means you get the views from the big windows while you're sitting in the lounge or at the kitchen table. The space is open-plan. It's not huge, but it's bright and does the job.

There's a garden around the cottage. It gets the evening sun. On site, there's a bit of lawn for games like swing-ball and petanque if you fancy it. The national cycle route 7 goes past the gate.

You're about three and a half miles from the coast at Southerness. The Solway Coast is good for walking and birdwatching. The Caerlaverock Wetland Centre is about a 20 minute drive away if that's your interest.

Dumfries is roughly a 20 minute drive. That's where you'll find bigger shops, the museum, and a cinema. The Robert Burns connection is strong around here; Ellisland Farm, where he lived, is nearby.

The village of Ruthwell itself is small. It's known for the Ruthwell Cross, which is a very old Anglo-Saxon stone cross. There's a museum about the savings bank too.

For facilities: there's parking, WiFi, a TV, a dishwasher, and a washing machine. Bedding and towels are included. There's a stairgate if you need one. No pets, I'm afraid.
