Country Escape at The Granary is in the village of Easthorpe, near Colchester. It's a detached, converted granary. The rating is 5 Star, which means it's been done to a high standard.
It sleeps four in two bedrooms. Both are good sized. One has its own ensuite bathroom, and there's a second family bathroom as well. The main living area is open plan, with the kitchen, dining, and sitting room all in one space. It has air conditioning.
Outside, there's a private garden and a sunny balcony off one of the bedrooms.
I should mention the stairs. They are the original granary stairs, so they're quite steep and a bit narrow. Just something to be aware of.
The village has a pub that does food about half a mile away. The nearest shop is in the next village, a couple of miles drive.
For local walks, the Abberton Reservoir is close by. It's a big nature reserve with footpaths and bird hides. Essex Wildlife Trust has the details.
Colchester is about seven miles away. It's a proper town with shops and a castle. Colchester Castle is the main historical site. If you head towards the coast, Mersea Island is about twelve miles. You drive across a causeway to get there. It's known for seafood, especially oysters.
Other places within half an hour include Layer Marney Tower, which is a Tudor gatehouse you can go up, and Tiptree, which has the jam factory and tea room.
The facilities are all there: parking, wifi, a washing machine, dishwasher, and a wood burning stove. Bedding and towels are included. There's a BBQ for the garden. Sorry, no pets allowed.
