Shepherds Belle & Croft Hut
This is Shepherds Belle & Croft Hut, in Messing, Essex. It's a glamping set-up for two people. You get your own secluded meadow with long grass and wildflowers.
The main thing is the lotus belle tent. It's five metres across so there's good headroom. There's a black metal double bed inside with colourful bedding. It's got a clear section in the roof so you can see the sky from bed. There are solar lights and a back and front door flap.
Next to the tent is your own little green croft hut. That's where the shower is. It has a cool box and a hot and cold tap outside on the back for washing up.
You cook outside. There's a wood-fired rocket stove for boiling a kettle or one-pan meals, and a small BBQ.
It's a 4 Star rating. That means it's comfortable and clean, with bedding and towels included. There's parking on site.
The site is quiet, but there's another hut called Ryeland Hut about 40 metres away. It's screened off for privacy. You can book both together if you're a group of four.
For things to do, Bourne Mill is nearby. It's a National Trust property with a working waterwheel. Colchester and Chelmsford are both within about half an hour's drive. Colchester Zoo is a popular day out.
