Ryeland Hut

Ryeland Hut is in Messing, just outside Tiptree. It’s a glamping hut in a meadow. Oak clad, like it says. It’s for two people. One bed, one en-suite shower.

It’s got a 4 Star rating. That means it’s comfortable and well equipped for what it is. It’s a hut, so expect a cosy space, not a big cottage. The wood burner keeps it warm. There’s a proper little kitchen and a TV, which some people like.

It’s in a big field with wildflowers and mown paths. There’s a gazebo and a picnic table outside. It feels private because of the trees and planting around it. There’s another hut on the farm, but they’re well spaced. You could book both if you were coming with friends.

The farm has some animals: a few horses, ponies, some sheep, chickens, and two golden retrievers. There’s a footpath right by the hut that goes into Messing village, which has a good pub for food. Tiptree is walkable from there too.

On site, there’s a small farm shop selling their own preserves and snacks. You can book holistic therapies in the Walnut Barn if that’s your thing.

For days out, Bourne Mill is close. It’s a National Trust property with a working waterwheel. Colchester Zoo is about a 30 minute drive. Chelmsford and Colchester are within half an hour if you need a bigger town.

Facilities: Wood burner, BBQ, your own parking, bedding and towels are included. You can bring up to two dogs.
