Slàinte Mhath

This is Slàinte Mhath in Craigellachie. It's a detached bungalow, so no one above or below you. It sleeps four, in two bedrooms, with one bathroom. It's got a 4 Star rating, which means it's comfortable and well looked after.

The main thing is the position. It's right on the edge of the village, across the road from the River Spey. You get a full-length balcony at the front with bench seating. That's the spot for a coffee in the morning, looking out over the river. The view is just fields, trees, and water.

Out the back, there's a garden that's fully enclosed. It's got a patio with a table and chairs, and further down, a proper fire pit with seating built around it. It's private. You can sit out there in the evening.

Inside, it's all on one level, which is handy. The living space is open plan. There's a woodburning stove for cooler nights, which we keep stocked with wood. You've got a TV, WiFi, a dishwasher, and a washing machine. All the bedding and towels are included.

Craigellachie is small. You can walk to The Craigellachie Hotel and the Highlander Inn in a few minutes. Both have good whisky bars and serve food. About five minutes round the corner is the Fiddichside Inn. It's tiny, one room really, and full of character. It's a proper local.

If you're here for the whisky, you're in the right place. There are dozens of distilleries within a short drive for tours. The Speyside Way walking path is literally across the road. You can follow the river for miles.

For other things, the Cairngorms National Park starts just a bit up the road. Good for hillwalking. There's mountain biking at Glenlivet and Fochabers. There's salmon fishing on the Spey, but you'd need to sort permits. Plenty of golf courses around too.

You can bring one well-behaved dog. There's parking for two cars on the gravel drive.
