Auld Dairy Cottage

Auld Dairy Cottage is near Kirkmaiden, in the far south of Dumfriesshire. It's a detached cottage, converted from an old dairy. It sleeps six in three bedrooms. There are two bathrooms, one downstairs.

The main living room is big and light. French doors open straight into the garden, which is enclosed. The view from there is over fields towards Luce Bay and the Galloway Hills. You can sit out there quite easily.

The cottage has a 4 Star rating. That means it's comfortable and well-equipped. It's got a dishwasher, washing machine, and WiFi. Bedding and towels are included. There's parking right outside.

Drummore village is about a twenty minute walk down a quiet lane. It's a small fishing place with a harbour and a beach. There's a pub that does food. The beach is good for a walk or a paddle, but the water's cold for a proper swim.

You're right on the edge of the Galloway Hills here. The walking is very good straight from the door, on quiet roads or paths. For a significant walk, the Southern Upland Way coast-to-coast path passes nearby. The Mull of Galloway is about five miles south. It's the most southerly point in Scotland. The lighthouse is there and the views are big, out to sea and back over the coast. The RSPB has a reserve there for seabirds.

Within half an hour's drive you've got Stranraer. Agnew Park there has a boating lake and play park for children. For gardens, Logan Botanic Garden is famous and worth a visit. The whole area is quiet. It's more for walking, cycling, fishing, or just sitting looking at the view than for busy attractions.

No pets, sorry. The stairs inside are fine, not especially steep.
