Gigha

Gigha is in Drummore. It's right on the main road through the village, with Luce Bay directly opposite. You cross the road to get to the beach, which is sand and stones.

It sleeps four. Two bedrooms upstairs and one bathroom. It's a 4 Star place, so it's comfortable and well looked after. You can bring up to two dogs.

The main thing is the view. The living room window looks straight out over the bay. You get the full expanse of it. You can watch the weather come in, which can be quite something.

The garden is enclosed, which is good for the dogs. There's parking right outside. It's got a woodburning stove, wifi, and a washing machine. Bedding and towels are included.

You've got a shop, a café that does seafood, and three pubs all within a few minutes' walk. The local one is about 200 yards away.

For things to do, the area is quiet. The Mull of Galloway lighthouse is about ten minutes south by car. The RSPB reserve there is good for seabirds. You can often see seals from the headland, and sometimes porpoises. RSPB Mull of Galloway.

Logan Botanical Garden is worth a visit, about a fifteen-minute drive. It's quite different, with a lot of southern hemisphere plants. Logan Botanic Garden.

Stranraer is roughly twenty minutes north for bigger shops. The ferries to Ireland go from Cairnryan, which is another ten minutes on from there.

If you're after a quiet week by the sea where you can just walk the dog on the beach and watch the water, this does that very well.
