Ty Afon
This is Ty Afon, in Talybont on Usk. It's a terraced cottage right in the village, a few yards from the canal. The back garden is enclosed, which is good for dogs or kids. There's space to store bikes.
We renovated it completely in 2022, so everything's new. It sleeps eight people in four bedrooms. There are three bathrooms, which helps with a full house. Two of the bedrooms and one bathroom are on the ground floor.
The stairs to the top floor bedroom are steep. It's a cottage, so that's just how they are. That top room is a good size though, and has its own shower room.
You've got two living rooms, which is useful if some people want to watch TV and others don't. There's a wood burner in one of them. The kitchen has a dishwasher, and there's a utility room with a washer and dryer.
Out the front door, you're on the Monmouthshire canal path. You can walk or cycle for miles without going on a road. The village has two pubs, a café, and a shop, all within a couple of minutes' walk.
The Brecon Beacons National Park is all around you. Talybont Reservoir is about two miles away for a walk or a swim. Pen y Fan is a proper hike, but you can drive to the start in about twenty minutes. The town of Brecon is five miles away for supermarkets, more pubs, and a few shops.
Because it's so dark here, the stargazing is excellent on a clear night.
We include all bedding and towels. There's parking for two cars on the drive. You can bring up to two dogs. We've got a cot, highchair, and stairgate if you need them.
For planning, the National Trust and Visit Wales sites are useful.
